One New World And One Freebie!

 Quick Worlds 19: Etxarte

Come to Etxarte!

Etxarte is a world of violent weather ruled by a man who calls himself "King".  Step out of line and he sends you to rehab!

While the King rules with an iron fist, he keeps his citizens happy by allowing them freedoms in entertainment.  Drink as much as you like, listen to the singing storyteller, but never, ever use a fork!

Quick Worlds 20: Atargatis

Quick Worlds 20: Atargatis is being offered free of charge.  Not only is this an offering of appreciation to those who have supported us during our first year in business, it is an excellent opportunity for those who have been curious about our Quick Worlds series to jump in and see what we've been doing.

Welcome to Atargatis!

Atargatis is ruled by a military dictator who sends his enemies off to the mines.  No one is allowed a gun, but swords abound.

Come to Atargatis and rescue a friend at swordpoint!  Duel with the locals!

Both worlds have been designed with the busy Referee in mind.  They are meant to be interesting and exciting places that can be easily added into any existing Traveller campaign.

And short of ideas?  We've added several adventure hooks to get your creative juices flowing and allow you to make the visit one your characters will remember.

Look for other worlds in our Quick Worlds line coming soon!

Alegis Downport Reviews Hiallt

Alegis Downport has reviewed Quick Worlds 14: Hiallt.  Overall, he gives it a good review but did note a problem with the world map.

This problem has since been corrected.  If you have purchased a copy of Hiallt, you should now be able to download a corrected copy.

Thanksgiving News

I hope all of those who celebrate Thanksgiving had a good one.

I, myself, spent Thursday evening with my family.  Today (thanks to being off from my dayjob due to the holiday) was spent working hard on two new Quick Worlds supplements which will see print sometime soon.  I think both of these have some rather unique qualities. I hope that you will find them entertaining and useful.

And we are working on some other projects as well (but not quite at a point where I can mention them yet).

Happy Thanksgiving!

Quick Worlds 16: Serapis Released!

Quick Worlds 16: Serapis has been released and is available on Drive-Thru RPG!

Welcome to Serapis!  Serapis is a world with a once popular dictator who is clinging desperately to power.  He's a guy not even his mother could love!

The people are restless.  The royal family wants their power back.  The military is becoming more and more independent of civilian control.

Serapis is a world of impending revolution and brewing intrigue.  Serapis is a world filled with adventure and impending chaos, but without a cup of coffee anywhere!

Quick Worlds 16: Serapis has been designed with the busy Referee in mind.  Serapis is meant to be an interesting and exciting place that can be easily added into any existing Traveller campaign.

And short of ideas?  We've added several adventure hooks to get your creative juices flowing and allow you to make a visit to Serapis one your characters will remember.

Look for other worlds in our Quick Worlds line coming soon!

Upcoming Events

OK.  A few quick notes on what you can expect to see from Gypsy Knights Games in the next few weeks.

First and soonest, we will be getting Subsector Sourcebook 1: Cascadia to print.  We expect the post office to have the second proof copy to me tomorrow and we expect that it will be found ready to print.  We had a few minor typos and we left off two playtesters.  The book will available in both a softcover and a hardback.

Second, very soon we hope to also have our newest product, 21 Plots Too in print soon as well. The manuscript has already been sent to the printer and we await their approval.

Third, we have several new Quick Worlds supplements that will be up for sale soon as well.  Each of these is in different phases of development, but I think you'll find each and every one of them to be fun and unique.

Of course, we have other projects in the pipeline as well.  We're not quite ready to reveal them yet, but right now I have a list of several fun and interesting things which will be making their way to you in the coming months.

We're excited.  And we hope you are too.

Cascadia just got an excellent review on the Traveller blog Alegis Downport.

I Will Be A Guest At ConCarolinas (June 1-3, 2012)

In the previous post about 21 Plots coming out in print, I noted that I had other good news.  I can now tell you that I am to be a guest at ConCarolinas in Charlotte, NC June 1-3, 2012

So if you're in the Charlotte area or can make it to the Charlotte area on the first weekend in June, stop by and say hello!

This looks to be a very good convention.  This will be my first time attending it and I'm very much looking forward to being there.

21 Plots is now in print!

Good news today!

You can now purchase 21 Plots in print from Drive-Thru RPG!  This has been quite a learning process for us to get this into print, so we're quite proud to have it out there.

Check it out!

And... a bit more good news as well actually... but revealing that will have to wait a bit I'm afraid!

Interview Excerpt

A friend of mine recently conducted an interview with me as part of a report he was doing on small businesses.  I thought some of you might be interested in portions of it.

PS:  How's business?

GKG:  Its going quite well actually.  Far better than I ever hoped.  When I started back in February, I told Wendy I'd be lucky to sell 100 books in a year.  We're close to breaking 500 now and, like I said earlier, we hit the 6 month mark yesterday.

PS:  You have 12 of the quick worlds out now?  How many more in that series?

GKG:  Right, 12.  Originally,  there were only going to be 10, but Greg [Seaborn] came to me with a great idea for Chance.  And, of course, Vince [Campbell] passed away.  We had already done tributes to Charles [Hendershot] and John [Gagnon].  I felt like it would be appropriate to do one more in honor of Vince.  In addition, we take all the money that comes in from the Campbell one and send it to directly to the Brain Aneurysm Foundation.

But the original idea was to put out 10, learn from the experience, get that under our belt, and then put out the Cascadia subsector with an additional 10 worlds all in one book.  10 that were out and 10 that were new.  We've changed that now to 12 out and 8 new (and, obviously, two got put off until another time).

PS:  You've talked to me about a setting book.  Is that what this compilation, this "Cascadia" book, will be?

GKG:  No, but it will get included in the setting when we put it out.  There are hints as to what we are doing, setting-wise, in the Cascadia book.  But the idea of the "big book" (that's what we call it unofficially) is the same as the Quick Worlds.  We want someone to be able to run a Traveller game in whatever setting or rules set they want and be able to say "Ok.  Got a great idea for a story, but I need a place...." and be able to snatch up the book and say "Ok.  Here's a great place for it."

PS:   So the setting book comes later?

GKG:  Yeah.  We've got some definite ideas on it but its not yet in stone.  And I don't want to give away too much, but we're really hoping to have something a bit different than "usual" Traveller.

PS:  Will there be more Quick Worlds?

GKG:  Absolutely.

PS:  Anything else coming up?

GKG:  I'm really excited about about a new project we've got working, but I don't know how much I can say about it right now.  A bit different than anything else we've done and I'm looking forward to that.  We're working on two more books, and, of course, the "setting" book.  And, hopefully, within a few weeks, 21 Plots in print.

PS:  An actual "hold in the hand" book?

GKG:  Yeah, I'm very excited about that.  We've promised it for a while now and we've had lots of questions about it.  Over that time, we've been working to get it just right, fix some errors, and so forth.  I've gotten three proofs back so far and none of them have been acceptable to me.....so we made changes.  Hopefully, all of this will get ironed out and soon you'll be able to go to Drive-Thru and get either the pdf or the book or both.

PS:  I saw on your blog that you had big news but couldn't tell us.  Can you now?

GKG:  Well, I just did on one of them.  21 Plots in print.  The other is that I've been named as a guest at another convention, but I don't want to say which one yet.  They have confirmed me as a guest through email, but I don't want to say publicly until they post it on their website.  But I'm really excited about that, because not only will it be my second ever appearance as a guest at a con (which, in many ways, is a dream come true for me) but its a convention I've attended for many years.  So that makes it a bit sweeter.

I'm very excited about MystiCon in February though.  That will be my first appearance as a guest and I'm outstandingly happy to be going.  I've never been to MystiCon, so it will be a first-time experience all the way around.

PS:  Thanks John.

GKG:  No problem.

I'm Batman!

So... it seems an old friend of mine, Brett Williams, has decided to become Batman.  Well, sorta.  He wants to take some time and train like Bruce Wayne would as well as travel the US like Jack Kerouac.

He's taking donations for his cause.  He's looking to raise $5k to be able to do this the way he wants.  If you'd like to help, you can click this link and watch his video.

1 More The Hard Way

So.... again... I've discovered an error in QW12: Megara that made it to publishing rather than being caught.  I've fixed it tonight and new copies went out to all who were affected.

More of the previous lesson retaught.  It HAS been learned.

Alegis Downport reviews Megara

Steve Attwood over at Alegis Downport was kind enough to give a positive review of Megara in his blog.  He also offers some constructive criticism which I'll be taking to heart.

We're always trying to improve things here and between this review and the one given on DTRPG by P-O Bergstedt, I feel we've learned something we can apply to make the products that much better.

We're on the path!  This Saturday will be the 6 month anniversary for the company and our first published product.  I'm pretty proud of how far we've come, but I also know that we have a long way to go as well.

But there was good news......

.... but I can't tell you about it yet.

Two pieces of news arrived this weekend that could lead to some cool things.  I'll tell you more when I can.

Learn from our mistakes

So it seems that I made a rather huge mistake in QW12: Megara.  I apologize profusely for this.  It seems that when I was creating the system, I transposed the numbers for the mass of the sun.  0.95 became 0.59.  Doesnt seem that huge a mistake really, but once I built upon that mistake it threw a great many things off kilter.

The mistake has been corrected now.  If you have purchased QW12: Megara, you should have received an email telling you of a corrected version.  If you haven't purchased QW12, you won't see the mistake.

Mistakes happen.  But I think what most embarrasses me about this mistake is that I let get out into the public, that even after reading and re-reading QW12, I missed it.  It took a reviewer to spot it and while I appreciate his honesty and his notification, it embarrasses me that it got to that point.  But we learn from these things and it won't happen again.

Sorry about that.

Quick Worlds 12: Megara Released!

Our newest Quick Worlds supplement has been released this afternoon.  I think its a world in which characters can have some interesting adventures such as dealing with and/or drinking the Beta and its blood.  The government is just short of collapse and is quite decadent.  Lots of opportunity and possibility.

Check it out!

Concerning the Art Contest

I'm afraid I've left something out of the requirements for the contest.  My fault and I'm truly sorry.

With my license being what it is with Mongoose Publishing, I can't use anything that features something from the Official Traveller Universe (this includes the commonly seen starships (like the Beowulf or the Azhanti High Lightning), any of the aliens (Aslan, Vargr, etc) or any of the symbols (the starburst, the Solomani cross, etc).

I should have said this before, but sometimes I forget that most people don't know what I can and cant publish with the SRD.  I was reminded of it today when I got an outstanding piece of art that, sadly, I can't use.  I've informed the artist and sent my apologies.  I sincerely hope he's able to come back with something slightly different.

Gypsy Knights Games Art Contest #1

When we first started Gypsy Knights Games back in February this year we had a very spartan art budget (and some would say still is).  So our first few products had covers that were.... lets just say....basic.

Well, we would like to go back and change some of that.  So...we're looking for artists.  And what better way to find some than by having a contest!

What we would like is for you to create a piece of art that will go well with our first worldbook Quick Worlds 1: Kyiv.  Buy or borrow (we'd prefer you not steal) a copy of QW1: Kyiv, read the interior, and then get a piece of art to us.

The winner of the contest will be the person we feel provides us with an excellent piece of art for the cover of the book.  The art should have something to do with the text of the book and hopefully illustrate some scene on Kyiv.

You will retain ownership of the art, but will be giving us permission to use it (in the style of the later worldbooks with the GK stripe and the black bands) on the cover of Quick Worlds 1: Kyiv (both pdf and possible print run) and as an illustration in a future book (which we hope will be available in print as well as pdf)The winner will, of course, be credited in the book(s).

The winner of the contest will receive $50 and three free copies of any of our existing books (winner's choice).

Simply send the piece of art and a description of what the artwork depicts to gkgamesart@gmail.com by August 26, 2011.  Winners will be announced on September 1, 2011.

Gen Con 2011

Sadly, it looks like no Gen Con again this year.  Its been four years since the last time I was able to get up to Indy.  This year will be no different I'm afraid.

Next year though.  Next year.

Quick Worlds 11: Chance

Thanks to some great ideas from my good friend Greg Seaborn, we have a new entry in the Quick Worlds series out there.  Quick Worlds 11: Chance is an airless rock around a red dwarf.

So what do you do with such a place?  Build a casino!  Of course!  In this case, its actually five casinos run by five mafia families.

We think this will be an excellent product for those Referees looking for a place in which to base a gambling adventure, a mafia adventure, or just a good stopover.

Check it out:  Available now at DTRPG!
