The race is on!

The Slide is a pirate route leading from the Winston Subsector of Clement Sector to the Peel Subsector of Ariel Sector. The route runs through the wild untamed subsectors along the trailing edge of the colonized subsectors. It is a dangerous proposition for the best of ships and crews.

Ever so often though, the pirates hold a race: The Slide Run. Who can not only beat the odds of The Slide but also the other racers? It's a no holds barred free for all where the only rule is that whoever gets to the end first is the winner! The other crews will use subterfuge, speed, and violence to beat you!

Can you do it? Are you brave enough to attempt The Slide?

The Slide comes with instructions on how to run the race, detailed information on the systems along the route, your twelve opponents, your ship, and nine pre-generated characters. Everything you need to take your players on a grand adventure!

Start your drives. The race is about to begin.
Get yours at this link: http://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/202134/Ships-of-Clement-Sector-17-Atlasclass-Freighter

Gypsy Knights
Games is proud to present the seventeenth entry in our line of products
dedicated to the starships of Clement Sector.

Ships of Clement Sector 17 covers the Atlas-class freighter which is the second most commonly found ship in Clement Sector. Building on the information found in The Clement Sector Core Setting Book, Ships of Clement Sector 17 lovingly details this shipping legend.

Created by Cascadian legend James Lancaster, the Atlas is
perhaps his most enduring legacy. The vessel was first used by
Lancaster Shipping and, later, by his Cascadia Colonization Authority
(before it became a Cascadian government agency). Following Lancaster's
voluntary break-up of his shipping company, the Atlas started being used by corporations, governments, and individuals across the sector.

Within these pages, you will find the standard Atlas as well as these popular variants:

Colony Ship - Based on Lancaster's original design to ferry colonists to new worlds in Clement Sector, the Atlas-class Colony Ship is still in use today on the frontier.

Armed Merchantman - Used by some governments as system defense and some corporations as escorts, the Atlas-class Armed Merchantman and its particle beam barbettes pack quite a punch.

Missile Ship - Trading the cargo pods for missile bays, the Atlas-class
Missile Ship can form the backbone of a system's defense forces when
they cannot afford to build or purchase a warship. Pirates beware!

Ships of Clement Sector 17: Atlas-class Freighter comes complete with beautiful views of the ship. The Atlas
is presented with full deckplans and statistics to make your use of our
product simple, easy, and fun. In addition, the ship comes with a set
of adventure hooks to get your characters right into the action as well
as two short stories written by Bradley Warnes.

Though designed specifically with our Clement Sector setting in mind, the Atlas will be at home in any science fiction setting.

Climb aboard! Adventure awaits!

Well, that was an interesting year.

First off, let me thank everyone who has stuck with us during the changes we've made over the last year. Thank you. It means a great deal to us that so many of you continue to enjoy our products and spend your hard-earned money on the things we do. Thank you again.

Ordinarily, I am not one who goes in for these sorts of "year in review" things. I like to put things behind me and move on to the future rather than concentrate on the past. However, people have been asking about how things went for GKG in 2016 and, as I often say in our "Viewer Mail" segments, if a few people are taking the time to send emails then it is a good chance that there a lot of folks out there who are wondering the same things.

The simple answer is that 2016, as it was in so many fields, was tough for GKG. We spent the better part of the year dealing with the changes brought on by Mongoose. I won't lie to any of you and say that I'm not still a bit bitter over what happened. Suffice it to say that I am glad that the separation happened but I really wish it would have happened in a better way than it did.

GKG spent the first quarter of the year preparing for Mongoose's second edition only to find out the truth of the TAS program at the last second. We then spent the remainder of the year attempting to convert all of our products over to, at first, being simply Open Game License in order to escape Mongoose and remain viable, and then switching everything over to The Cepheus Engine. To say that GKG owes a debt of gratitude to Jason Kemp is to put it mildly. His fine work with The Cepheus Engine truly enabled GKG (and several other former Mongoose Third Party Publishers) to continue. We have now established Clement Sector as its own game based heavily on Jason Kemp's Cepheus Engine rules with our own changes to better match up with our setting.

As I write this, we have converted almost all of our Mongoose compatible products over to our new Clement Sector game. Some will return in the coming year. I'd say anyone reading this already knows this but I'll say it again: If you purchased one of our Mongoose compatible products, you should be able to go to your "Updates" section on DTRPG or RPGNow and download the new version for free.

During all of this, I'm proud to say that we continued our goal of creating one supplement a month for the Clement Sector setting. Creating 12 new and quality products while simultaneously re-engineering an existing catalog of nearly 48 products is a lot of work and I could never have done it without the superior skills of Michael Johnson, Ian Stead, Bradley Warnes, Stephanie McAlea (whose immense talent has changed our cover layouts), and our editor, Curtis Rickman. I'm fairly sure we've all frayed a few nerves over the past year.

How did we do in 2016? Well, financially, we pulled in just slightly more money as we did in 2015. While that's not the best of news, it is certainly better than going backwards. So far, we've improved in sales every year since 2011 and that's allowed us to continue to bring more products to you and to strive to improve those products each and every time.

So what's ahead for 2017? The first quarter of the year is already in production. Quite soon you will see Ships of Clement Sector 17: Atlas-class Freighter. Much like last year's final product, Ships of Clement Sector 16: Rucker-class Merchant, SOCS17 will detail one of the most popular ships in Clement Sector and show several variants of the class. The final touches are being put on this as I type this as we combine Ian Stead's beautiful art with Michael Johnson's superb writing.

For February, you will see Wondrous Menagerie: Uplifts in Clement Sector. This will detail the many uplifted animals, both from Earth and from other worlds, which populate Clement Sector. We will go into much greater detail about uplifts you already know such as Dolphins and Bears as well as introduce you to other uplifts such as Lions, Tigers, Bovians, and Quetzals. I hope you will enjoy this book as much as I have enjoyed writing it and seeing the fantastic art of Bradley Warnes.

For March, you will see the second volume of the Wendy's series. Wendy's Guide to the Fleets of Cascadia Subsector will give you an in-depth study of the many independent navies in Cascadia Subsector from the small system defenses of Yangon to the powerful monitors of Monroe. Michael Johnson is hard at work on this one right now.

On top of that, we've more adventures to come. A Fifth of 21 Plots is on the horizon. We have two campaign adventures that I've been playtesting: A Poor Chisel and The Slide. You'll hear more about these in the coming months.

How do we feel about 2017? Honestly, I feel like the shackles are off and I've lost 100 pounds. We're ready to go forward!

Gypsy Knights
Games is proud to present the sixteenth entry in our line of products
dedicated to the starships of Clement Sector.

Ships of Clement Sector 16 covers the Rucker-class merchant vessel which is the most commonly found ship in Clement Sector. Building on the information found in The Clement Sector Core Setting Book, Ships of Clement Sector 16 lovingly details this mainstay of Clement Sector's shipping lanes.

Commonly called "Odd Job", the ship is renowned for its reliability and easy customization. While the Rucker's
most common role is being the favored vessel of free trading merchants,
the ship has been used for everything from a cargo hauler to a music
stage to a system defense vessel. All in a day's work for the "Odd
Job".

Within these pages, you will find the standard Rucker as well as these popular variants:

Passenger Variant - A Rucker modified with comfort of passengers in mind. Replacing cargo space with luxury!

Cargo Variant - Used by merchants who would rather sacrifice passenger space for more cargo. No pesky transiters!

Casino Variant - An opulent modification allowing for a traveling gambling experience for high rollers!

System Defense - For the less wealthy system, the Rucker
system defense variant can be the perfect answer. Modified to be armed
with a particle beam barbette, this ship can strike fear into marauders
and pirates!

Missile Boat - Modified to hold a missile bay in the
bow of the ship, this variant can pack a mighty punch against those who
would attack shipping in your system!

Ships of Clement Sector 16: Rucker-class Merchant comes complete with beautiful views of the ship. The Rucker
is presented with full deckplans and statistics to make your use of our
product simple, easy, and fun. In addition, the ship comes with a set
of adventure hooks to get your characters right into the action as well
as two short stories written by Bradley Warnes.

Though designed specifically with our Clement Sector setting in mind, the Rucker will be at home in any science fiction setting.

It is often said that
war is 90% information and, in 24th century Clement Sector, it is no
different. While most governments have intelligence agencies which
provide this sort of information, the general public relies on Wendy's
Naval Weekly as the premier source of naval information. Most starship
captains have Wendy's Naval Weekly on their handcomps or mindcomps.

Based on Cascadia, with offices
established on all the major worlds of each subsector, Wendy’s Naval
Weekly has continued to publish monthly reports and annual summaries on
naval development, technologies and defense news throughout the entirety
of Clement Sector since the Collapse event ten years ago.

Wendy’s Guide to the Fleets of Hub
Subsector is the first of a series that collates all available
information to provide a comprehensive overview of Clement Sector navies
and their fleets. Each book will focus on a single subsector. Each of
these books will briefly outline a system’s navy or defense force,
provide some insight to how that organization functions and provide a
list of the ships or in-system vessels that are reported to be in
commission.

Now that information is available to you!

This
book provides information on all of the fleets of Hub Subsector, every
ship currently operated in those fleets, doctrines, and even their
uniforms. The book also contains an in-depth discussion of the Sword of God-class light destroyer operated by the Kingston Navy of the Faithful providing all of the detail you've come to expect from our Ships of Clement Sector series.

Here's our current schedule for upcoming conventions. If we have it listed here, this means that we are confirmed to be in attendance.

Other conventions may be added later. Unfortunately, Moatcon (which would have been in December in Youngsville, North Carolina) has been canceled.
Designed to replace the trio of aging Centaur-class hospital ships HMHS Centaur, Polkan and Kinnara in Royal Navy service, the Milligan-class
was successfully exported even before the new ship design had been
accepted and entered service, eventually serving in several of the
larger national navies, system navies and defense forces across both
Earth and Clement Sector.

The traditional role of a hospital ship
is to provide medical care in times of armed conflict for the naval
squadron’s personnel and marines it is attached to. But apart from this
primary role, hospital ships such as the Milligan-class have a
wide variety of secondary roles, often tasked to provide emergency
response support where needed. They are in reality fully equipped mobile
hospitals that are able to bring medical care directly to the location
most needed.

Being only armed with sandcaster turrets
and a point defense node array the Milligan-class relies on her ship’s
identification beacon to announce her non-combatant, humanitarian role
within naval service. Society owned hospital ships use the same beacon
identification protocol that the military use with appropriate
differences to broadcast operator status.

ARRRR! Heave to and prepare to be boarded!

Piracy has been a near constant in Clement Sector since the Conduit
was first opened. In fact, some historians maintain that piracy may
have played as large a part in the direction that civilization spread
from Hub as did the astrography of the sector. The act has been part of
the fabric of the sector and continues to be so despite the best
efforts of the many planetary governments.

Piracy in Clement Sector includes down on their luck merchant crews
forced to compromise their morality, people who watched one too many
episodes of Superpirate! and think they can do that too,
ex-military people who are working for one government to disrupt the
trade of another, dedicated pirates who are just stone cold killers, and
marauders who are attacking new colonies along the frontier.

Skull and Crossbones: Piracy in Clement Sector covers
all of these and delves into the tactics, lives, and traditions of the
sector's pirates. The book covers the pirate havens, the articles of
agreement, and the pirate code (more of a guideline, really). Each
subsector's piracy problems are covered in detail to let merchants know
where to avoid and pirates know where is safe to strike!
In addition, two unique pirate vessels are detailed here as well. The Demon-class lembus and the Ironbard-class
longship. Both are presented in our usual Ships of Clement Sector
format with in-depth descriptions, full deckplans, and beautiful art.

Grab your cutlass! Get your rum! It's time to go pirate, me mateys!

class of mid-size replenishment ships were put into service in 2282. A
total of twenty of the new Boyne-class replenishment ships were authorized for construction. The lead ship, HMS Boyne had
only just been commenced when orders began to be sought from the United
States, India, Australia, Russia and France who were all looking at
newer, larger replenishment vessels to replace those currently in
service.

Continuing in the tradition of our earlier "viewer mail segments", today I would like to take a moment and answer a few questions that commonly come to me in person, online, or in emails. We're always happy to answer questions and we try to answer them as quickly as we can.

I figure that for every question I get there are several out there who have wondered the same thing and just haven't had the opportunity to ask it themselves. So, without further delay, let's dive into this episode of "viewer mail".

1> Hey John! Where's the Clement Sector rules using the Mongoose Traveller 2e rules? Why isn't Gypsy Knights Games involved in TAS?

Well, the truth is that, as things currently stand, there isn't going to be one. After months of Mongoose telling us that Mongoose 2e would be OGL and that there would be a corresponding Traveller Logo License, they changed that and began Travellers' Aid Society (TAS).

TAS allows publishers to use any portion of the Mongoose 2e rules and any portion of the Original Traveller Universe (OTU) which has been published by Mongoose for their products. The publisher's products then become part of a "creative commons" where anyone can use the information in those products in their own products. The publisher may then keep 50% of the earnings for themselves.

While that might be great for someone who wanted to publish OTU products, it was tantamount to suicide for GKG. As we do not use any portion of the OTU, the only upside of this program was nullified for us. So we would simply lose 50% of our earnings AND the IP rights to our own setting. That was a bad deal for us and we voiced our concerns early in the TAS process.

At the time we voiced those concerns, we were told that none of those would be the case. We believed that right up until we started to upload Clement Sector to TAS and discovered the legal language which said the above. At that point, we left the program and will no longer consider doing Mongoose Traveller 2e products.

2> So what's with the "OGL" on your products?

All of our second edition Clement Sector materials use the Mongoose Traveller 1e rules. Those rules are Open Game License. Since we are no longer allowed to call it that nor are we able to use the "Traveller" logo and there is not an accepted term for it other than "the old SRD" or "The Rules Formerly Known As Mongoose Traveller 1e", we are denoting this by saying "OGL".

3> If you're not doing Mongoose Second Edition why do some of your products say "second edition" on them?

The simple answer is that the "second edition" on our products refers to the second edition of Clement Sector. When we figured out that we were going to have to do a complete overhaul of our products to either go OGL or match up to Mongoose 2e, we decided to produce a second edition of Clement Sector. In this we made a lot of changes to how the Zimm Drive works, added some new material to the Clement Sector main rulebook, and folded some of our older products (Career Track 1: Medic, Career Companion, and Clement Sector Player's Manual) into the main rules.

We then went through our existing catalog and worked up second editions for all of those as well. In some cases, just performing a few error fixes and, in others, adding a lot of new information, art, and charts.

4> Oh man. Does this mean I have to buy all of this stuff again?

It does not. If there is anything we dislike at GKG, it's the idea that a game company would make a few changes to the rules or setting, jack up the price on the PDFs, and then expect you to buy your entire catalog again. We're just not going to do that to you. We have more respect for you than that.

If you have purchased (or were gifted) a PDF of any of our books, you should be able to go to Drive-Thru RPG or RPGNow, look in your "Updates" section (under "Account"), and download the new version for free. Unfortunately, if you only bought print books, I'm afraid that I cannot update your book for you though. Sadly, no one has invented a method to do that but, if they do, I'll be happy to use it to update print books as well.

5> I notice that a lot of your print books are no longer available. Why is that?

We have pulled down all of the Clement Sector 1e print products. As we can do so, we will begin putting out second edition print products. Currently, only Clement Sector can be purchased in print. Hopefully, this will change sooner than later.

6> Where can I discuss Clement Sector?

Most of the GKG team (especially me) are very active on social media. You can find Clement Sector discussions on our "Clement Sector Discussion Group" on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/groups/clementsector/) as well as discussions going at Google + and forums such as COTI, Mongoose's Forum, and the RPGSite. There is also a Clement Sector forum at RPGGeek (http://rpggeek.com/forums/family/22817/clement-sector) but it doesn't seem to get a lot of traffic.

7> You had talked about a Wendy's Guide to The Fleets, A Superpirate themed 21 Plots book, a Ships of Clement Sector with a cruise ship, some American ships for Ships of Clement Sector, etc. for last year and early this year. Where are they?

Sadly, we spent most of our time in the third and fourth quarter of last year and the first quarter of this year preparing to revamp all of our products as Mongoose Traveller 2e. That put us behind on our usual schedule. However, we are up and running now and all of those things will be coming as soon as we can.

8> I see you go to a lot of conventions. Would you like to come to our convention?

Yes, I would. However, due to the fact that I have a very busy schedule, we would ask that you let us know at least eight months in advance so we can plan for it. We are in the Southeast US and if your convention is out of that region, this may require additional planning.

9> We'd love to have Clement Sector on the TravellerMap.com. Why isn't it?

I wouldn't mind that a bit. That assumes that the fine folks at TravellerMap would want us there and have a place to put us which ensures that folks don't think we are part of the OTU. In addition, I assume that this might be a somewhat time consuming project and, as it stands, time is at a premium as we try to update everything to OGL. So time might also be an issue.

In short, I like the idea but I have no immediate plans to do it.

10> Hey! I'm a writer/artist/designer and I'd love to do something for GKG. What do I need to do?

Honestly, right now, we're fully booked on projects for the near future. If you'd like for us to consider you for future products, shoot us a line through our website or on one of those social media outlets we mentioned in the earlier question. When we do have an opening for something, we'll contact you.

Thanks everyone! Hope you've enjoyed this viewer mail segment!

If you have already purchased (or were gifted) the PDF of this book, check your updates on Drive-thru, RPGNow or any of the family of OBS websites. You should have a complimentary copy of this book added to your update section. Just like Clement Sector, Cascadia will remain a free update for those who have purchased SS1: Cascadia until it is pulled down on May 22. Of course, if you go buy SS1: Cascadia 1e, you will also get a copy of Cascadia (OGL) along with your purchase.

Check it out at this link: http://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/181069/Subsector-Sourcebook-1-Cascadia-2nd-Edition-OGL-Version
In our future history, April 15, 2331 is the date of the collapse of The Conduit (the wormhole that connected Earth Sector to Clement Sector). After that event, Clement Sector was separated from Earth and the worlds of Clement Sector were on their own.

As most of you reading this will be aware, Mongoose has created a second edition of their rules for Traveller. Like the collapse of the Conduit, this has forced a separation for the products we created under the first edition license that we had through Mongoose. Those products will be forced to no longer be part of the Traveller line and, on May 22, Gypsy Knights Games will remove those products from the market.

However, most of those former first edition products will be part of a new line of products that will take advantage of the fact that Mongoose's first edition is Open Game License. Not only will most of our existing product line become OGL but we will also continue to support that line with new products.

The first product for that line will be Clement Sector 2nd Edition (OGL). Clement Sector 2e (OGL) will be available for sale as a PDF on April 15 which is, for us, a very fitting day. A print version will follow shortly.

For those who have purchased (or were gifted) Clement Sector 1e through Drive-thru RPG, RPGNow, or any of the family of OBS websites, you should check your updates. You should have a free copy of Clement Sector 2nd Edition (OGL) for you there. Clement Sector 2nd Edition (OGL) will remain a free update for those who have purchased Clement Sector 1e until the product is pulled down on May 22. Of course, if you purchase Clement Sector 1e from DTRPG, you will also get a copy of Clement Sector 2nd Edition (OGL) along with your purchase.

Clement Sector 2nd Edition is not simply a rules update. We have added a detailed future history, a change in the rules on how the Zimm Drive works, and much more. We have also folded our Player's Guide, Career Track 1: Medic, and Career Companion into the 2nd edition of Clement Sector.

Does this mean that we are leaving Traveller? It does not. We have already prepared Clement Sector 2nd Edition (MgT 2e). Once we have permission from Mongoose to put this on the market, we will do so. It will be followed by a line of new products which will use Mongoose's second edition rules. Look for this to arrive quite soon.

So, as you can see, tomorrow will be a big day for Gypsy Knights Games. Thanks to everyone who has supported us over the years and we look forward to many more years of gaming with you.
